First semester is over

posted by: Nikki

It is hard to imagine being a different person only three months after coming to Rider, but the truth is, I feel completely different. I have worked with some great teachers and made great friends and I am sad that we have to go.

In the beginning, I was excited to go home and see my family, but now I feel that I am leaving one to go see another. Rider has become like a second family to me and I love that feeling. After all of the hard work I have done this semester, I am looking forward to taking a break, but also looking forward to coming back to my second family in January. When looking at Rider as a possibility last year, I hoped that I would feel this way when it was time to go, and I am glad it turned out the way I hoped. I want to thank all the people who have made the first semester of my freshman year so positive, leave some love for all my friends going home, and leave everybody with a wish I have for you this holiday season.

Whatever is beautiful, whatever is meaningful, whatever brings you happiness… May it be yours this holiday season and throughout the coming year!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYBODY!!!

Fall Semester almost over...

posted by: Katie
topic: So this week is the last week of classes for the fall semester! I have all my work pretty much done, I only have a final paper and a final for the same class, on the last day of classes. I don't have any finals during finals week! Instead, I'm working more at the television studio and admissions. So what my friends and I call the "com major crunch" hasn't really affected me- which means I had all my assignments done early so I don't need to edit footage, work with media, ect during the last days of classes.

Even though my fall semester as a senior is coming to a close, I may be at Rider longer! I'm applying for graduate school in the organizational leadership program with a track in communications. I would like to become a professor one day (after working in the awesome television industry).

Tonight we had a rush event to invited girls to check out my sorority, Alpha Xi Delta. We held a game night, and it was a blast! Mostly because the games I own are awesome. I have the "old school" games from when I was 13, like Mall Madness and DreamPhone. Everyone wants to play those! It was fun for independents and sisters.

Another thing that I am super excited about revolves around the scholarship I won with the American Women in Radio and Television. Now I am a member, and get to do all the cool members things. One event that I am excited about are the Gracie Awards, awards for women in the media. It's going to be held at Tavern on the Green in Central Park, NYC, and it should be a lot of fun. I hope I can go, and that I'm not busy, but why should I skip an event to "hob-nob" with the famous? I'm excited for it.

That's what I've been up to so far- definetly ready for Christmas Break time though- and then off to my final semester as an undergraduate at Rider.

Deserved Break

topic: Over Thanksgiving break I definetely kept busy and tried to spend as much time with friends and family as I possibly could. My break began by meeting my sorority sister for dinner to discuss the plans for her wedding which I am one of her bridesmaids! I cannot wait to be a part of her special day! Then came Thanksgiving where I went back to my hometown, where I spent Thanksgiving day for the first time in awhile. That night, I did the major craze on Rider's campus- Guitar Hero 2.

Although this break I did try and catch up on sleep since I had been sick, I did still have many responsibilities to take care of as well such as waitressing at a local restaurant.

Now that I have returned to school, I have to buckle down to complete my projects and papers. I must admit that after a well-deserved Thanksgiving break, it is great to be back at Rider, even though I have so much work in the next short 2 weeks leading up to finals!

Nick's Introduction

posted by: Nick
Hey everyone! My name is Nick and I am a senior at Rider. The last three years have flown by, and this year is going just as fast! I can't believe I'm graduating in May. I feel like it was just yesterday when I was starting my experience at Rider as a freshman. I come from Yardville, NJ where I graduated from Steinert High School in 2003. At Rider, I'm majoring in business. I have a double-major in Computer Information Systems and Management and Leadership, and I also have a minor in Spanish.

My courses keep me pretty busy, but I'm also involved in a lot of other activities at Rider. I'm a Student Senate Representative in Student Government Association, a position I have held since my freshmen year. I am also a Peer Mentor, which a student mentor that helps facilitate a freshmen seminar. I am also involved in Greek Life. I'm a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and I am President of the Interfraternity Council which is the governing body for Rider's five social fraternities.

During my freshmen and sophomore years, I was also involved in the Association of Commuting Students and I was a Commuter Assistant. I lived at home and commuted to Rider throughout my first two years. I decided to move into my fraternity house on campus during my junior year, which has been an incredible experience. I also have two jobs on campus. I work as a Student Admission Representative in the Office of Admission and as a manager of the Bart Luedeke Center (Student Center). As you can see, I'm pretty busy! Don't worry; I do manage to find some free time. In my free
time, I enjoy working out at the Student Recreation Center, listening to music, and hanging out with my friends. I'm looking forward to sharing my Rider experience with you. I hope you'll check back soon to read about my experiences. That's all for now. Talk to you soon!
